3 Common-Sense Security Measures You Can Implement Today

3 Common-Sense Security Measures You Can Implement Today

Running a business is already confusing enough without worrying about security at all times. Whether you’re a small business owner or a multi-level enterprise, security is just as important for all the same reasons. Today, we want to share a couple of security strategies you can implement today to feel better about the current state of your infrastructure moving forward.

Implement Password Security Practices

Your passwords are the first line of defense for all your online accounts, and you cannot take them lightly.

We know you hear it all the time, but frankly, there’s no better advice out there. You need strong, complex passwords to keep your business—and all of its related accounts (including your employees’)—safe from threats. We recommend you use a mix of upper and lower-case letters, numbers, and symbols, put together in an unpredictable string.

We recommend you implement a password manager to keep these credentials secure, safe, and in the back of your mind at all times.

Keep Your Software Updated

Your business uses all kinds of software, and if you want it to remain secure, you need to ensure it receives updates.

The reason for this is simple: security researchers are discovering new vulnerabilities in their services and products every day. If they’re left unpatched and unaddressed, they make for perfect entry points for hackers and cybercriminals. Make sure that you’re addressing all software used by your business, including its productivity suite, your web browsers, and any other software that’s used on the regular.

If you have a system in place to manage all of these updates, all the better.

Prepare for the Worst with Backups

We could (and have, in the past) go on and on about the importance of data backup, but that’s not really the point of this blog.

Really, what we want to get across here is that you need to have a safety net in place should your security measures fail in any way. For example, let’s say your infrastructure gets hit by a particularly nasty security threat like ransomware, despite your best efforts to protect your business. Your customer data, financial records, and other important data could all be at risk of permanent loss, or worse: it could be stolen and subject you to fines.

With a data backup solution in place, you will be in a better position to bounce back from such an event (and others like it).

Security isn’t always about implementing fancy new solutions for your business; sometimes it’s about common sense practices. To learn more about how we can support you in both aspects, reach out to us today at (877) 226-9091.
